About Liesel

Artist Statement

We've all had the experience of walking into a place, indoors or out, and suddenly feeling better. My goal is to create visually delicious paintings which are uplifting, joyful or soothing. Our lives can get so busy and stressful. I create to give one a breath of fresh air and to be reminded of the good things that are all around us.

About Liesel

Liesel Lund lives on Whidbey Island in Washington state, where she often is out painting the beautiful fields, forests and beaches of the Pacific Northwest.

Liesel studied fine art and scientific illustration at The Evergreen State College, The University of Washington and Gage Academy of Art. She has studied with Aimee Erickson, Jon Redmond, Dreama Tolle Perry, Jeff Legg, Kathleen Speranza and Maggie Siner.

Over the years she has worn many creative hats. As a Peace Corps Volunteer in Thailand she created a nature education center at a Doi Luang National Park. Later she designed graphics for Seattle’s Woodland Park Zoo's Butterflies and Blooms exhibit, children’s books for Wright Group/McGraw-Hill, and textile prints for Tommy Bahama's tropically inspired clothing. In 2009, she left the design field to be a full time artist and workshop instructor.

2006-2015, Liesel created and sold one-of-a-kind, semi-precious stone jewelry at local gift and clothing stores and at Mike Carroll Gallery, Lanai, HI.

2010-2024 Liesel taught art workshops in art journaling, watercolor, book binding, oil painting and jewelry in California, Nebraska, New Jersey, Illinois, Texas and Washington.

After moving to Whidbey Island in 2016, she switched her main medium from watercolors to oils and started painting outdoors, in addition to working in her studio.

She has taken plein air painting trips to Orcas Island, WA | Sedona, AZ | Santa Barbara, CA | Carmel, CA.

A third generation artist, Liesel follows in the creative footsteps of her grandmother, a ceramic bead and fiber artist, and her mother, a traditional quilter, author and garden designer.

Painting
Landscapes

Liesel paints outside in every season, capturing the beauty of her beloved Whidbey Island, and the Pacific Northwest. Painting on-site allows her to fill the painting with the richness of being out in nature.
